Story of Nelson Mandela's Life



There have always been some curious souls in the society which aspire to do something productive in life which would change the life of downtrodden people at large. The study of the life of great leaders like Nelson Mandela teaches such individuals how to catapult themselves to the achievement of their goals.

Mandela, very bravely struggled against the curse of racial segregation that was legalized by the then government of South Africa. In order to weaken his activities the government brought charges of sabotage against him and imprisoned him for more than 20 years. However, Mandela did not give up. As soon as he was released from jail, he started working devotedly for democracy based on equality of all races in South Africa so much so that he became the first president elected through a democratic election.

The utmost efforts and sacrifices on the part of Mandela won him tremendous awards. He, no doubt is an example for the less privileged classes of society. He is a source of hope for them that if they commit themselves to attain their rights, no one can stand in their way.

His words are like valuable gems which can change our lives altogether. He said,
''The man is not he who never feels afraid, but he who conquers his fears.''







Life of a Blind Woman: Helen Keler


Helen Keller was a deaf and blind woman whose heroic struggle against her stark and silent life holds a mirror to the pessimists who give up hope in life just because of minor losses .Helen Keller did not let her physical shortcomings take the better of her. She is reported to have said,
''No barrier of my senses shuts me out from the sweet, gracious discourses of my book friends''.

She held her head high and worked hard to reach the pinnacle of learning so much so that she wrote amazing books which became famous all over the world. Moreover, she learned to dance and do horse riding. People all around the world wanted to meet her. Some great personalities like Graham Bell, Charlie Chaplin, and John Kennedy met her eagerly. She was said to have a 'charge of electricity'.

Helen Keller was not alone in her struggle. Her parents very bravely helped in every possible way and provided her the best teachers. She attended college and graduated with honors.

Many books have been written on the life of Helen Keller. People in every age have been inspired by her. She proved in her life what she said,

“One can never consent to creep when one feels an impulse to soar”.




Information about Life of Harriet Tubman


Today, we live in a free world where everyone has the right to live according to their will. Imagine the time when humans enslaved other humans like animals. Many years ago Black Negroes were kidnapped from Africa and brought to America. They were treated brutally and made to do hard labor. Harriet Tubman was one such slave. However, she mustered up courage and pulled not only herself but thousands of others like her out of the clutches of slavery.

While still a child, she was separated from her family and sold to a cruel woman without the permission of her parents. Harriet was made to do tough work but still whipped by her mistress. Gradually she became a strong girl who could do the work of a man. However, she secretly harbored the wish to run away to the North where she had heard many slaves had run away and got freedom. Even after her marriage Harriet dreamt of freedom.

At last, Harriet got help from a white woman who guided her as to how she could escape. After a long and tiring journey she reached Pennsylvania where no one was allowed to keep slaves. Later she found work for herself in the city and started living a free life. Harriet put her life at stake and traveled back to the South to help other slaves in running away.

Harriet was called Moses by her people .She was like a ray of light for them. Her life shows that man can shape his own destiny even if he is in the worst circumstances.




Life and Childhood of Clara Barton

Many of us cherish dreams in our hearts to do something in life which would mark an epoch in history. However, our inner fears and apprehensions do not let us come out of the shell we tend to form around us. If we unravel the rolls of history, we will be surprised to note how some of the great personalities of the world who possessed the same weaknesses that we harbor, overcame their shortcomings and performed such incredible works for which people remember them even after their deaths... One such personality is that of Clara Barton who is famous for establishing the American Red Cross.

Clara Barton was extremely shy when she was a child. She hardly made any friends. This was perhaps because she had could not pronounce the letter’s’ while speaking. Her family was worried for her and did not know how to make her overcome her fears. Then something happened that changed Clara completely.

Clara was fond of her brother, David. He got injured badly. The doctor advised the use of leeches which would suck the bad blood out of his body. Surprisingly, Clara declared that she would look after her brother. This developed her confidence and trust in herself. She even started taking interest in the job of nursing so much so that she went to the battlefields of the American Civil War to attend the wounded soldiers. Gradually, she gained fame in her country for her services and finally she established a new American Red Cross which even to this day gives relief to millions of different victims.

Thus, the heroic struggle of Clara Barton's life shows that if there is nothing impossible in this world. Once you become determined to do something you can definitely become the masters of your destiny.
